Xàbia is proudly diverse and next Saturday, July 2, it will celebrate a passacaglia festive to prove it. It is one of the measures to make visible the different ways of wanting and one of the actions proposed by the participants in the questionnaire carried out through social networks from Xàbia Diverse (the municipal space for attention to sexual and gender diversity) on the reality LGBTI in Xàbia and the freedom with which sexual identity is lived in the municipality.

The Councilor for Equality, Montse Villaverde, has encouraged everyone to join this festive march (it will leave at 8:00 p.m. from the Plaza de la Constitución) and also the institutional act that is held in the town hall on Tuesday, June 28 at 12 o'clock.

Villaverde has indicated that this parade will serve to recover the claim of diversity as a value and of public spaces after the pandemic. It has also valued the great work carried out by Carmen Ivars and Teresa de la Cruz in the space for attention to diversity, a service that is in the two secondary schools and that during the pandemic made the leap to the networks to be able to continue alongside those who need support or advice on sexuality or gender.

In these months Xàbia Diversa has taken the opportunity to press the opinion on the expression of sexuality in the population with an online questionnaire. This was completed by 372 people, most of them young people up to 25 years of age (60%).

As highlighted by Xàbia Diversa, this survey makes it clear that the vast majority (85%) thinks that sexuality continues to hide for fear of the reaction of others and that institutes continue to be a hostile space to come out of the closet.
