The V Ondara Solidarity Race for the benefit of the Spanish Association Against Cancer took place yesterday, Sunday, October 2, with a very high participation of people of all ages (more than 1,400 people from Ondara and the region attended this race). This charity event, which was organized by the Ondara City Council Sports Department and the AECC Local Board, with the collaboration of the Ondara Athletics Club, achieved its goal: to raise funds for the fight against cancer. In fact, this year a record figure has been collected: a total of 9,080 euros, being the highest collection achieved to date in this charity event.
Before the start of the march with the "pink tide", the 9,080 euros were symbolically released in a large check in the name of AECC, which was granted by the Mayor of Ondara, José Ramiro, to the president of the AECC Local Board, Mª Carmen Bisquert, and members of the Local Board. Mª Carmen Bisquert highlighted that the proceeds will go to research against cancer; In addition, he stressed that the race was a total success and thanked all the participants for their contribution.
Prior to the start of the race, the manifesto was read on the occasion of the fight against breast cancer (which is symbolized by the color pink; the color of the shirts of the participants in the race, which became a great "tide pink"). Thanks to breast cancer research and awareness, the median 5-year survival is 85%, as noted in the manifesto.
The race had a 4,200-meter route for walkers and 7,000 meters for runners (starting and finishing on General Bosch street, in front of the bullring) through a new circuit through the Xebics, Mollons and Alfatares areas (the runners reached Torrecarrals). . The race was carried out by walkers of all ages; many of them boys and girls; some even on a scooter or baby reel.
The runners and runners made a 7 km route. All registrants received a commemorative pink race t-shirt. To animate the race, "zumba" was offered by Esther Calatayud. Trophies were awarded to the top three finishers in each category. The first local CA Ondara runners were Juani Martínez Cantó, Mª José Català and Tere Miralles; and the first local runners of C.En Ondara, Fernando Server Espin, Francesc Vicent Roselló Arbona and Simón Ern. We must highlight the classification in the male veterans B category of the C. Ondara Tri-Sport riders, Sergio Torres (2nd in his category) and Toni Doménech (3rd).
The Mayor of Ondara, José Ramiro, and the Councilor for Sports, Mar Chesa, have thanked the effort made by the Local Board of the AECC and the Ondara Athletics Club in organizing the walk, as well as expressed their gratitude to all the people who have collaborated, both businesses and companies, as participants in the race, Local Police and Civil Protection. More than 1,400 people participated in the race yesterday. In addition, 150 local and regional companies have contributed financially to the solidarity race.
